Job Description

DPD have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and pragmatic Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Manager to join our thriving business.

In this role you will report to the General Manager Health and Safety and you will be responsible for supporting our Hub Locations at Smethwick, Oldbury and Hinckley. At peak times our Hub Operations can sort close to 1.5 million parcels per daily sort

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Promote regulate and control a health & safety awareness/culture within the DPD and DPD Local Hubs (evening & night operations including some weekends) in order to fully achieve compliance with legislation and the strategic direction of the company.
  • Managing the Occupational health & Safety Management System within the Hub sites, ensuring compliance to health and safety legislation and effective reporting.
  • Carry out risk assessments as directed by the needs of the Hub Operation.
  • Develop effective procedures, with management involvement, from the risk assessment process.
  • Undertake H&S & KPI audits and compile management reports
  • Assist in designing, implementing and delivering health and safety related training.
  • Undertaking specific health and safety related projects as directed by the General Manager H&S.
  • Manage the Company Accident / Incident system in Hub Operations and investigate / report outcomes.
  • Liaise on environmental issues. Undertake compliance audits for ISO14001 Environment Management System

About You

To be considered for this role ideally you will be DGSA Qualified and hold the NEBOSH General Certificate. Your career history will clearly demonstrate proven experience within HSE Management, preferably gained within a warehousing, engineering or transport environment. Due to the size of our operation the ability work collaboratively and supportively within the team is critical.

You will possess excellent communication and influencing skills with the ability to adapt and respond to situations quickly. Your strong problem resolution, negotiation and decision-making skills will be fully utilised in this role. You will be comfortable working on your own initiative with the ability to prioritise and effectively manage your time.

You will have strong IT, Project Management and report writing skills.

Desirable experience includes:

  • Presentation skills
  • Experience in parcel industry.
  • Knowledge of the links between SHE systems and Risk Management.

Specific Requirements

To be considered for this role you must:

  • Have the Right to Work in the UK
  • Possess a full valid driving licence
  • Be flexible to work a varied shift pattern (to include some nights) to meet business requirements
  • Be flexible to support all Hub Locations
  • Be “On Call” - typically 1 in 7 weekends
